Welcome to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, a faith community which represents the Holy Spirit in the world – a church which is outward focused, concerned with “growing disciples”, and a member of the world-wide Anglican Communion.
St. Stephen's is a vital center for hospitality, education, arts & music, and outreach & mission in partnership with local schools & universities, other churches, and service agencies around the world. Our partners include: Housing for New Hope (Durham), Urban Ministries of Durham, Durham Habitat for Humanity, Duke Divinity School and the Anglican-Episcopal House of Studies, The Episcopal Center at Duke University, the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, Durham Congregations in Action and the YO:Durham program, the Durham Economic Resource Center, the Music Education program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the Organ Program at the UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, La Iglesia El Buen Pastor in Durham, the Durham-Orange Preschool Association, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes, and many others. St. Stephen’s Preschool is a part time morning church-affiliated preschool serving ages two through Pre K (four year olds). Located in southwest Durham, the preschool also serves families in northern Durham, Chapel Hill and northern Chatham County. The teachers of St. Stephen’s Preschool are dedicated to enriching a child’s preschool years in a loving, Christian environment. It is by respecting each child as a unique, contributing human being, that one establishes the positive sense of value and self-worth that will sustain the child for years to come. The preschool is located in the Children’s Christian Education Building in a beautifully wooded area on the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church property, with an expansive playground located directly behind the preschool.
